Her dedication extends beyond her professional life as she believes in the principle of “Practice What You Preach”. Her commitment to the cause is evident in every aspect of her life, making her a true champion. Over the years, Suhasini has trained hundreds of people in the fields of waste management and education through implementation and awareness programs. She has developed effective waste management systems such as “G Star” model implemented in Madiwala and K R Markets of Bengaluru, “Zero Waste Campus” at Cambridge Institute of Technology, TMC Moodbidire and is actively promoting “Leaf Composting” in and around the city.

Suhasini has won accolades such as “Young Achievers Award 2020” recognized by Prajavani and Deccan Herald Newspapers and “Swachha Champion Award 2022-23” by BBMP for her immense contribution in the field of Solid Waste Management.

Her journey began in the field of social work when she realized that there are gaps in the ways, the NGOs and Volunteers work in addressing the social concerns. She felt the need of having facilitators who can bring in all the stakeholders together to fix a problem. She started dedicating her time in studying the problems inside out and invested her time in understanding waste management in markets of the city, schools and colleges and in households and streets. This is when an employee of BBMP got acquainted with her and discussed the issues of Market waste in Bengaluru. Suhasini invested her time in studying the waste problems in markets and was appalled to find out that the huge quantities of unsold fresh fruits and vegetables are just discarded. She came up with a model called “G Star” where “Garbage is the Star”. Here, the unsold fruits and vegetables are diverted to cows, piggeries, NGOs and goshalas. It is now successfully implemented in Madiwala, KR Puram Markets. In pursuit of fixing more issues around waste management sector, she once witnessed burning of waste in schools and colleges and sending out the large quantities of mixed waste to landfills. For this, she carved out the idea of “Zero Waste Campus” along with Cambridge Institute of Technology where all the single use items are brought to “Zero”, waste is well segregated at source and sent to recyclers, piggeries and composted. Suhasini saw an opportunity during the celebration of Annamma festival at KR Market. She worked along with SVP, India and made sure to divert all fruits and vegetables to NGOs and Goshalas and flowers to Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR). One of her on-going crusades is “Composting of Dry Leaves”. She once asked a Paurakarmika worker to collect dry leaves in front of her house to get it composted. She built a leaf composting unit which was successful and actively promotes the idea through her campaigns and initiatives.

He once visited Hogenakal falls, where he was utterly bewildered to see the entire stretch of the river bank with trees enveloped with plastic covers. All these incidents ignited a fire in him to start finding solutions and work towards a better environment. This is when he joined hands with Vedan where he is now able to positively influence the society at large.
