K R Market in Bengaluru annually hosts a local traditional festival called Annamma festival. The venue is decorated with flowers, fruits and vegetables. After the festival, all these usually end up in landfills. With the intervention, we along with Partners (SVP, India, BBMP, APD NGO for differently abled), were able to recover and re-direct the valuable resources out of landfills to Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Orphanages, Hospitals, Goshalas etc.
IMPACT
- 4000 – 5000 kg of waste diversion out of landfills
- 70% of the waste re-directed to stakeholders for use
- 50+ volunteers, 70+ vendors engaged
