Nurturing Minds, Empowering Lives: Prioritizing Mental Health And Wellbeing – Manthan & Know Yourself Programs

Health and wellbeing is a universal human right. Approximately 7.5% of India’s youth are affected by mental health disorders. Nearly 26% of individuals aged between 13-17 years, experience significant psychological distress. Anxiety and depression are the two biggest mental health problems in Indian students. Common issues aggravating mental health are – parental pressure, peer pressure arising due to comparison by themselves or others, study and exam anxiety, bullying, gender dysphoria, substance abuse, relationship troubles, addictions, domestic violence, concentration issues, lack of skills etc. The mental health and well-being of adolescents and youth profoundly impact their present and future and it is at this stage, they need help and support. It is important to channelize their energy in a good way. Hence, such children and youth are reached for health promotion and interventions through counselling. The psychological exercises support in building student’s self-concept, self-image, self-confidence and the ability to cope and withstand pressures through resilience building strategies ensuring stigma-free pathways.

3 areas of focus through this program are:

  1. Emotional – Know yourself session – helps them realize their strengths and weaknesses
  2. Physical – Acupressure and health camps
  3. Future – career counseling, interview process, resume writing etc

So far, we have conducted Know Yourself sessions at Government Science College, Polytechnic College, Hassan and Manthan sessions at various government schools.
